Our investigators are well experienced at providing appraisals, reviews and reports which are CrPR compliant for use in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts.
Charges associated with our expertise are usually ‘arson’, ‘arson, reckless as to whether life was endangered’, or ‘arson with intent to endanger life’, and in this regard we are usually approached by defence lawyers. We have also provided expert witness testimony in several high profile ‘muder by arson’ cases including R-v- Collings (Newcastle Crown Court 2002) and R -v- Zhanje (St Albans Crown Court 2011)
We do not see it as our role to get charges dismissed under any and all circumstances. However, it must be said that, with the loss of the Forensic Science Service, we have seen the Police increasingly rely on sources of evidence that are often insufficiently robust to prove ‘beyond reasonable doubt’. We are also firmly of the belief that everyone is entitled to have their case reviewed by an experienced, independent expert.
